How to Remove Tracking from ChatGPT Text

A step-by-step guide to cleaning AI-generated content and removing telltale signs of machine origin.

If you've ever copied text from ChatGPT and pasted it somewhere else, you may have unknowingly included hidden tracking markers. Here's how to clean your AI-assisted content.

Step 1: Understand What's Hidden

ChatGPT and other AI tools may include:

  • Smart quotes ("curly" quotes instead of "straight" quotes)
  • Em dashes (—) where regular hyphens would be natural
  • Unicode ellipses (…) instead of three periods
  • URL parameters like `?utm_source=chatgpt`

Step 2: Use CopyCleanse

  1. Copy your AI-generated text
  2. Visit [copycleanse.com/app](/app)
  3. Paste your text into the input field
  4. Click "Clean Text"
  5. Your cleaned text is automatically copied to your clipboard

Step 3: Review the Results

CopyCleanse shows you exactly what was changed:

  • **Yellow highlights** = Smart quotes converted
  • **Red highlights** = Em/en dashes normalized
  • **Purple highlights** = Hidden whitespace removed
  • **Orange highlights** = URL tracking removed

Best Practices

  • Always clean AI-generated text before publishing
  • Review the changes to understand what was modified
  • Use the cleaned text in your final documents
